Definition:

Often, the weaning is baby-initiated, which means that the baby (or child) is beginning to increase the timing between feeds, or even dropping feeds altogether. However, if the baby is younger than one year, chances are unlikely that he is weaning naturally. There might be other reasons the baby is showing these signs. Typically, once the mother understands the root cause of her baby's breast refusal, breastfeeding will be resumed.
