Different Breast Milk Preparations

Fresh-Raw Milk:

Milk stored continuously at about 39.2 degrees for no longer than 72 hours after expression.

Fresh-Frozen Milk:

Fresh-raw milk that has been frozen and kept at approximately -4 degrees for less than 12 months.

Heat-Treated Milk:

Fresh-raw and/or fresh-frozen milk, which has been heated to no less than 132.8 degrees and kept for 30 minutes -- sometimes referred to as "holder pasteurization."

Pooled Milk:

Milk from more than one donor
