Definition:

The thin, watery milk that the baby obtains at the beginning of a feeding, especially when the breast is very full.

Foremilk is present after a mother's milk supply is established. Its high water content keeps the baby well-hydrated when breastfeeding. Foremilk is high in lactose, water-soluble vitamins and proteins.
