Definition:

Proteins produced in living cells that help trigger particular reactions in the body. Enzymes are actively transported through the bloodstream to the breast.

There are more than 20 active human milk enzymes; those enzymes are categorized into 3 groups by the specific activity they help with. The 3 types of enzymes in breast milk are:

  • Mammary gland function enzymes
  • Infant digestion enzymes
  • Milk enzymes
