Celebrities Have Problems, Too!

Thursday May 28, 2009

Call it schadenfreude, but I kind of like hearing when celebrities have everyday, personal problems. It gives me that little jolt back to reality...They are real people, real moms, with real issues, just like the rest of us.

Nancy O’Dell, co-host of Access Hollywood, tells all in a recent interview with American Baby Magazine. She discusses her pregnancy and all of the things she wishes she knew during that time, but didn't realize the frustrations would continue once she actually had her baby! She really struggled with basic breastfeeding concepts. She states, “I couldn’t figure out how to unlatch my baby! Thank goodness someone showed me how to move the baby to the breast, not the breast to the baby.” She goes on to explain that everything did get better after a few weeks, but highly encourages moms to plug through the tough times. She says that “it would’ve been helpful to know that nursing can feel so much better after three weeks."

This is the reason that I always encourage pregnant women to prepare themselves by taking a prenatal breastfeeding class. This way, you can know everything from A to Z before the baby arrives and you'll be able to distinguish what is normal and when you need to get help.
