Exciting New Study Shows That Breastfeeding Helps You Shed Pounds

Saturday December 20, 2008

You're going to get back into your pre-pregnancy jeans faster if you breastfeed! Here's the scoop...

A new study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition looks at the correlation between breastfeeding and postpartum weight. The study looked at data of over 25,000 women, measuring how long and how intensely they breastfed, with each woman receiving a breastfeeding "score". Results of the study showed that women with higher breastfeeding scores were more likely to lose their pregnancy weight six months after giving birth. The study authors concluded that women who gain a reasonable amount of weight during pregnancy and who breastfeed exclusively will most likely lose the entirety of their pregnancy weight six months after giving birth. In addition, women who breastfeed retain 4.4 pounds less than women who don't breastfeed.

I just saw your article on the topic of sexy nursing bras, then this. Maybe the weight loss helps with the sexy too. LOL!

Great recommendations.

I’m not sure about most other people but I breast fed all my kids till they were two. I can not say it helped me shed any weight during each time. I think this study needs to be re-examined.
