Excuse Me, Waitress? I'll Have The Breast Milk Stew, Please...

Friday September 19, 2008

This is just fantastic...Hans Locher, the owner of Storchen restaurant in the Swiss Alps Winterthur Resort, has announced that his menu is being changed. Many of his stews, sauces, and soups will now contain at least 75 percent breast milk. Says Locher, "We have all been raised on it. Why should we not include it into our diet? I first experimented with breast milk when my daughter was born. One can cook really delicious things with it. However, it always needs to be mixed with a bit of whipped cream, in order to keep the consistency."

Locher has posted ads looking for breast milk donors, who will receive just over three pounds (approximately $5.40) for 14 ounces of their milk. Now here's the controversy...just like in the United States, there are regulations regarding the use of human breast milk. The Swiss food control authority cannot understand how this has come to pass. It is, as of yet, unclear whether Locher will be able to serve his breast milk-laden food. A representative of the food control laboratory in Zurich states, "[Humans] are not on the list of approved species such as cows and sheep, but they are also not on the list of the banned species such as apes and primates."

For those who will be travelling to the resort and wish to sample some of Locher's delicacies, I'll keep you posted as I hear more!
