Update on FDA Pregnancy and Lactation Labeling on Drugs

Tuesday July 15, 2008

At the beginning of June, I posted information about how the FDA was revising their drug labeling system. The new labels will notify when certain medications could be harmful to women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. The FDA also asserts that this new system will head off any claims brought by women who are harmed by these medications or who allege that they were not properly warned about the hazards of these products.

The American Association for Justice will file comments. It is helpful to include additional instances where pregnant or breastfeeding women suffered injuries caused by insufficient warnings on drugs, or examples where the FDA initially stated that a particular medication was safe for pregnancy and later affirmed the opposite. If you have something to contribute, please send your comments to them.
