No Association Between Breastfeeding And Tooth Decay

Despite past reports that there is a connection between breastfeeding and dental caries, a recent study has shown no link between the two. "Association Between Infant Breastfeeding and Early Childhood Caries in the United States" looked at the oral health, infant feeding, and family characteristics amongst children between the ages of 2 and 5. The report found no increased risk, even with prolonged breastfeeding. However, poverty and maternal smoking were two major risk factors.
